We will here give a comparison of mostly practical aspects for Western men who are new to seeking sexual relationships in Asia. Details on pursuing sexual adventures are reserved for members.
IMMIGRATION
Easiest in Thailand (one can stay for years on tourist visas; just has to cross the border for a few minutes every few months); also easy for the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Cambodia; hardest for Indonesia (you can enter on a tourist visa only for up to four months per year, otherwise you will be suspected of illegal activities). You cannot stay permanently on tourist visa in Indonesia, Myanmar, China, Laos, and Singapore.
APARTMENTS, HOUSES
Cheapest, and best selection in Thailand. Also easy in the Philippines, but the selection is by far not as good as in Thailand. Expect to pay double the Thai price in Cambodia and Laos; three to four times as much in Malaysia and Indonesia; eight times the Thai price in Singapore. In China and Vietnam, you officially have to request permission from the authorities before renting a place. In Indonesia, rents normally have to be paid for two years in advance, so those who come on a tourist visa for sexual adventures have no alternative but to stay in hotels (expensive, often not very clean).
BUYING PROPERTY
By far the easiest in Malaysia; second on the ease scale is Singapore. With tricks in Thailand and the Philippines.
FOOD
Best and cheapest in Malaysia. Singapore is the same quality but double the price. Local food is the worst in Cambodia. Thailand is cheap, but the cuisine is overrated. Be careful in China as restaurants use enormous quantities of monosodium glutamate, as well as many fermented ingredients of undefined composition. Chinese supermarket food has been shown to contain formalin (used in the preservation of dead bodies). In Laos it's the easiest to live on European meals. Indonesia may have good cuisine in expensive restaurants, but what you normally find isn't anything special, and double the Malaysian and Thai prices.
SAFETY
Excellent in Singapore (and Japan); also nothing to worry in Thailand. OK in Malaysia; worse in Indonesia (possible political violence) and the Philippines (crima) and China (the city of Guangzhou was forced to impose a city-wide ban on all motorcycles because of robber gangs who would even hack off people's arms to get at wristwatches); miserable in Cambodia (you should not walk around after dark in Phnom Penh; locals in any city in Cambodia barricade themselves before 8 in the evening).
HEALTH MATTERS
A perfect score for Singapore. Sexual hygiene is also good in Thailand. Not quite as good in the Philippines. By far the highest AIDS prevalence in Cambodia.
SEXUAL LAWS
In Malaysia, being caught with a Malay girl in a room alone means either instant marriage or jail. In Vietnam and Laos, one cannot check into a hotel room with a female without showing a marriage certificate. In Cambodia, the police do surprise raids on those who have taken a girl into a room or back home to check whether she is 18. No problems in the Philippines as long as the female is over 18. In Thailand, the age of sexual consent is 15, but for working in a place of prostitution, it is 18. In Indonesia, a woman of any age can report a man to the police for having had sex with her, and then not being willing to marry her (rape by means of deceit). China. Like Japan, officially has a rather low national age of consent, but local governments can, and frequently do, set the age much higher (up to 22); be aware that China also is prone to arbitrary definitions of sexual crimes.
AVAILABILITY OF NON-PROSTITUTES
Best in Thailand (if you know how to go about it; see the member information). OK in the Philippines if you are willing to invest into a romance. For other countries, you
