Exited about Vietnam

Who is exited about Vietnam? Not we.

Among all the countries in Southeast and East Asia, Vietnam ranks at the bottom, or close to the bottom, for love relationships between foreigner and local women.

The Vietnamese government certainly wants it that way. Vietnam is the only country in Asia, that prohibits specifically a foreign man and a local woman to be in one room, unless the two are married.

Now, Brunei and Malaysia also have laws that prohibit unmarried people of the opposite sex to be in one room, especially if either the man or the woman is ethnically Malay.

The Vietnamese law, however, is specific in that it applies only to foreign men and Vietnamese women.

Vietnamese men and Vietnamese women, of course, can stay together in one room without being married. And many young Vietnamese men even live together with young Vietnamese women without being married.

Furthermore, there is no law that prohibits Vietnamese men to stay together in a room with a foreign woman, or to have a live-in arrangement.

Thus, the Vietnamese law on foreign men and local women is both gender-discrimatory and foreigner-discrimatory.

That teaches you something about Vietnam.
