Vietnam is now pretty easy for visas, and even for work permits... if only there would be better personal reasons to live there.
One can easily obtain half-year multiple-entry visas if one is willing to pay the price of something between 150 and 200 US dollar, and one does not have to leave for the full validity of the visa.
Foreigners can easily rent apartments in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, but prices are much higher than in China or Thailand. Calculate 250 US dollar up.
On the bright side, salaries for English teachers are also better. We met an Australian guy in Ho Chi Minh City who worked as an English teacher and made 2500 US dollar a month.
As he told us, he does this every few months in order to have money to spend in the Philippines or Indonesia.
